BLACK TEARS

(Artists/Musical Group)

Black Tears is a post‑punk and emo‑aesthetic band from Cravenwood, known for their melancholic music, enigmatic tone, and the dark rumors surrounding them. The group consists of Vera ("V")IvyRaine, and Mara, all born in the same year. Originally, the band included a fifth member — a mysterious girl who always appeared onstage wearing a surgical mask — who vanished without a trace.

  • Formation
Black Tears was formed through the 070MO Grant, an artistic scholarship sponsored by CannonCorp, created to support young people with outstanding creative potential. During the grant’s boot camp, the four members met and quickly bonded over shared trauma and a mutual fascination with darkness and introspection. Their connection evolved into a collective musical project defined by emotional intensity, poetic melancholy, and a rebellious spirit.

After completing the program, they signed with STAR System, a music agency under the CannonCorp conglomerate known for its strict control over its artists. Black Tears began performing in small Cravenwood venues, gaining attention in the indie and alternative circles for their brooding sound and emotionally charged aesthetic.

    The Fifth Member
In their early days, Black Tears included a fifth member whose identity was never revealed to the public. She always performed wearing a surgical mask, a trademark that added to her mystique. While she was deeply close to the other girls, she remained distant from fans and avoided interviews.

Shortly after completing their second demo, she disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The band halted all activity for nearly a year and released only a brief statement without details. Her absence left a deep mark on the remaining members, who have avoided speaking about her ever since. On rare occasions, some have been seen discreetly tearing up when asked about her during interviews.

The lack of answers has inspired countless rumors and fan theories. Some claim the missing member died under tragic or suspicious conditions; others suggest she was silenced by STAR System or drawn into a supernatural event. Her masked image has since become an icon of the group’s mythos, appearing in fan art, tribute songs, and urban legends about the “cursed” nature of Black Tears.

    Return and the “Cursed” Reputation
Black Tears re‑emerged with a darker, more ethereal sound through their debut album, Nocturnal Reveries. The record explores emptiness, haunting dreams, and emotional disintegration, with cryptic references to the vanished member. Critics praised its emotional depth and aesthetic consistency, but the tragedy surrounding the group ultimately became inseparable from their identity.

Since then, Black Tears has been regarded as a “cursed” band within Cravenwood’s music culture. Reports of odd occurrences at their shows — sudden blackouts, distorted visuals, and unexplained feedback — have only fueled the legend.

The group announced their upcoming performance at Emo Fest in Eggerstown, where they will officially present their debut album before a large audience. The announcement coincided with the band members nearing their 27th birthdays — an eerie parallel to music’s infamous “27 Club,” amplifying the dark mystique surrounding them.

  • Vera ("V") – Lead vocals and lyricist. Her raw, emotional voice defines the sound of Black Tears. Marked by a childhood of isolation and loss, she claims to write many of her lyrics after recurring nightmares. Considered the spiritual core of the band, Vera embodies both its fragility and its fire.

Ivy – Guitar and composition. The most mysterious creative force in the group, Ivy is known for her fascination with the occult and symbolism. She collects strange objects and incorporates them into stage setups, and her guitar is carved with patterns fans and critics have yet to decipher.

Raine – Bass. A quiet, elusive figure rumored to have an unsettling aura. Before joining the band, she was expelled from several schools following inexplicable electrical incidents. Stories about her supposed connection to paranormal energy helped cement the band’s “cursed” reputation.

Mara – Drums and visuals. A survivor of a serious accident, Mara channels her visions and hallucinations into the projections that accompany the band’s performances. Her drumming is aggressive yet emotional, and her visual art often contains hidden messages — widely interpreted as tributes to the missing member.

[Unknown member] – Identity unrevealed. The fifth original member, recognizable by her surgical mask. While deeply close to the others, she avoided the spotlight and rarely engaged with fans. Her disappearance in 2023 marked the beginning of the band’s cursed legacy. Her presence still lingers in their lyrics, stage imagery, and devotion of the fanbase.
